City of Toronto All Events http://ift.tt/1V1Fjlq In 1919, the Hudson's Bay Co. commissioned a film to document their history & work. A cameraman and half a ton of gear set out to do just that shooting never before seen footage of the HBC fur trade at remote outposts, met with numerous First Nations, Inuit and Metis trappers. From the Montreal departure to the vast expanses of the Artic and down west through the country, he went by canoe, portage, dog sled, train and ship. Rare footage includes a Potlatch ceremony on the BC coast, the frozen beauty of the Athabasca River at -30 C & remote communities. It all adds up to an incomparable time capsule of Canada of a century ago. Print Courtesy of the Winnipeg Film Group Musical Accompaniment by Bill O'Meara and sponsored by Arpix Media.
