11/01/2014 The Hitchcock 9: Blackmail Central West $10 - $19

City of Toronto All Events http://ift.tt/1xbqtte Starring: Anny Ondra, Sara Allgood, John Longden Hitchcock's silent Blackmail is one of the finest examples of British silent film. Made in 1929, during the transition to the sound era, it was originally commissioned as a silent and as a part-talkie. The silent version, though little seen, is considered superior to the talkie version in many ways as it contains more shots, more camera movement and the fluidity of the cutting conveys the narrative with greater style ending in the breathtaking climatic chase. Blackmail displays many of the stylistic elements and themes with which Hitchcock would come to be associated - particularly a fascination with male sexual aggression and female vulnerability. Piano Accompaniment: Laura Silberberg
