City of Toronto All Events http://ift.tt/1xCHfBx Bubbling with giggly comedic timing, Champagne is not just a lighthearted affair: it's a first glimpse at the robust elements of Hitchcock's trademark style. Reflective surfaces: mirrors, chandeliers, window and a champagne glass, allow for metaphorical extensions in double visions, see-through scenes, or apparitions. A father tries to teach his frivolous heiress daughter a lesson and feigns bankruptcy. Adding to the mix is a mysterious man's voyeuristic observation from behind the glass, reminiscent of scenes in North by Northwest. With a useful measure of visual distortions & stylistic quirks, Champagne offers a world of make-believe combined with social humour. Accomplished silent film accompanist William O'Meara will play live.
