City of Toronto All Events http://ift.tt/1p4tBbr It's the battle of the sexes as Hitchcock dips his toes into comedy. An irascible widowed farmer decides to marry again. With the aid of his faithful housekeeper he draws up a list of all the eligible women in the area, and goes wooing each in turn, with predictably disastrous results. The humiliating rejections finally strip the widower of his self-defeating pride & allow him to find the gal that's right for him. A romantic comedy in a rural setting is about as far as you can get from a "typical" Hitchcock. Despite that, it's a subtle film & one of his most enjoyable early works, with good performances, superior settings, lovely locations & the kind of gentle humour & farce, beloved of British audiences.
