08/06/2014 69th Hiroshima Nagasaki Commemoration Downtown Free



City of Toronto All Events http://ift.tt/Uwi323 69 years since the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and over 17,000 nuclear weapons remain. Toronto's commemoration ceremony at Nathan Phillips Square will recall the devastation of the atomic bombings and the nuclear weapons testing of the Marshall Islands. Cesar Jaramillo of Project Ploughshares and Setsuko Thurlow, International Peace Activist and Survivor, will speak of the renewed hope from the recent conference on the Humanitarian Consequences of Nuclear Weapons in Nayarit, Mexico. Yakudo Drummers, Toronto Gospel Church Choir and Raging Grannies perform. Community tables, origami, lantern ceremony at dusk. All events are free and open to the public.
