City of Toronto All Events http://ift.tt/2bTVX6a In a new series of paintings and works on paper, Sarah Letovsky focuses on the expressive nature of paint to explore ideas of subjectivity, tension, and hidden thought and feeling. Letovsky uses the painting process to create a force of opposites; her brushstrokes are at once gestural and deliberate, spontaneous and confined, bringing the figure forward with an empathetic gaze and pushing it back into abstraction with explosive colour, flat space, and restrained texture.
