City of Toronto All Events http://ift.tt/29s5EJs An invigorating and lush program centred on the string orchestra launches the 2016 Festival in hearty style. British composers have worked in this rich and flexible medium from the seventeenth century through to our own time, building an exceptional repertoire in the process. Featuring the Grammy Award-winning Parker String Quartet and the TSM Festival Ensemble conducted by Joseph Swensen, the program includes Britten's haunting Serenade for Tenor, Horn and Strings, Op. 31 which sets poems on the subject of night by renowned British poets spanning five centuries, and showcases soloists tenor Nicholas Phan, and Neil Deland (French Horn).
