Having embarked on an ambitious (if somewhat bumpy) effort to reengineer and rein-in China's state-dominated economy, Xi is also engaged in a highly confident and increasingly assertive foreign policy. What's in store for us in the year ahead? That depends to a certain extent on us, on whether we have the curiosity, energy and flexibility to understand, influence and indeed manage our share of a vitally important and increasingly complex relationship.
