City of Toronto All Events http://ift.tt/1S7tEQA Jacob Steinberg, will introduce us to the fascinating history of Jewish community to the community of Suriname in South America. Our story will commence with the arrival of the first settlers in the old capital Torarica (1630s), then move on to the establishment and later decline of the Jodensavanne, an autonomous Jewish community that flourished in the jungle of the Amazon basin for almost two hundred years. We will end with a view of the Jewish community in Suriname presently. Jacob Steinberg, multi-national consultant, has become part of the Surinamese Jewish community.
