City of Toronto All Events http://ift.tt/1teZNns The Canadian premiere and only Toronto screenings of the H9. Easy Virtue (1927) is an adaptation of Noel Coward's play of society's ruinous judgement on a woman that makes plain Hitchcock's uncanny ability to control the viewer's eye and thus, emotions. From his opening trick shot to the grand finale, point-of-view pushes perspective. Visually, Hitchcock would revert to similar scenes in Notorious, Torn Curtain & even as a weapon of defense in Rear Window. Like many of his films, Hitchcock was really sensitizing the viewer on the social perceptions of marriage, divorce and sexual politics. This became the BFI's most challenging restoration with no original 35mm elements to work from. Composer Jordan Klapman will perform a live piano score.
